General information about the Bombardier DHC 8-100
The Bombardier DHC 8-100, also known as Dash 8-100, is the first model of the evolved de Havilland Canada DHC-7. The machine belongs to the family of regional commercial aircraft of the Canadian manufacturer de Havilland Aircraft of Canada, now Bombardier Aerospace. The DHC 8-100 is a STOL aircraft and was launched in the early 1980s. The Dash 8-100 launched its maiden flight on June 20, 1983, and production began a year later. Unlike some successor models, the DHC 8-100 itself, since 2005, no longer in production. The series Bombardier DHC-8 as a whole, however, is still produced today and could be delivered by March 2017 already 1,218 times. Meanwhile, the models are also referred to as Bombardier Q series for marketing reasons. Here, the "Q" stands for the property "quiet". Successors of the Dash 8-100, which also runs under the Q-series, are the DHC 8-200, the DHC 8-300 and the still in production DHC 8-400.
Technical information about the Bombardier DHC 8-100
Capable of carrying up to 39 passengers and 2 crew members, the Bombardier DHC 8-100 bridges the gap between the smaller DHC-6 Twin Otter and the larger DHC-7. Since the second quarter of 1996, all newly produced machines of the DHC-8 series have been equipped with active noise and vibration insulation. This was intended to match the vibration and interior noise during the flight with that of a steel-powered passenger jet. To illustrate this new feature and a higher comfort associated with it, we changed the name Dash 8 in Dash 8Q. It is also possible to upgrade the cockpit equipment of the Dash 8-100 to 5 EFI 890R LCD screens from Field Aviation.
The DHC 8-100 measures 22.25 meters long and 7.49 meters high. The span is 25.91 meters. The maximum takeoff weight of the Dash 8-100 is 15,649 to 16,466 kilograms, while a maximum landing of 15,377 kilograms is possible. The machine has a top speed of 448 kilometers per hour, with a range of 1,889 kilometers can be achieved. In addition, the service summit height is 7,620 meters. The DHC 8-100 is powered by two PW120A turboprop engines, each with 1,491 kW of power, or the PW121, each with 1,603 kW of power.
