General information about the Cessna 180
The Cessna 180 is a light aircraft of the US company Cessna. The first flight took place in 1952, the market entry of the model followed a year later. From 1953 to 1981, 6,193 pieces of the Cessna 180 were built. Already in the autumn of 1951, the development of the machine began. It should be considered a heavier and more powerful alternative to the Cessna 170. The aircraft has been produced as a classic saxter with aluminum alloy. The hull has a semi-monocouque construction of frames and stringers. From outside a rivet was riveted to this. The main landing gear is made of spring steel and the tail wheel is both steerable and attached to a steel tube. The engine is a Continental O-470 with, depending on the model, different performance. Airplanes produced between 1953 and 1963 have two side windows. Instead of the wheels, it is also possible to mount floats. Because of its robust construction and versatility, the Cessna 180 is often used by bush pilots. In 1964, the US pilot Geraldine Mock managed to fly around the world with the Cessna 180. This machine can currently be found in the National Air and Space Museum. Militarily, the model is used by, among others, Australia, Thailand, Mexico and Israel.
