The Cessna 208 is a single-engine turboprop aircraft of the American company Cessna. The machine is popularly referred to as a caravan and is a feeder aircraft. The first flight took place on 8 August 1982, two years later followed by the market entry. By 2015, about 2,500 pieces were produced, although this has not yet been set. In October 1998, the 1,000 machine was already delivered. The Cessna 208 benefits from large wheels, which also allows starting and loading on unpaved surfaces. In addition, the aircraft offers a large amount of space. This allows the transport of large quantities of passengers or freight. The freight company FedEx owns a fleet of 309 aircraft of this type. The military version offers the air force the capability of troop transports, ambulance, freight and feeder aircraft. Furthermore, it is possible to equip the machine with floats, which makes use on the water possible. Military users include: Afghanistan, Brazil, Ivory Coast, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and Iraq.

The crew can only consist of one pilot. In the caravan up to nine people can be accommodated, in the Grand Caravan, this value extends even to 14 people. At an altitude of 3,000 meters, the maximum cruising speed of the Cessna 208 is 340 kilometers per hour. At 6,000 meters, this reduces to 295 kilometers per hour. With full tanks and no landing, the range of the aircraft is 1,797 kilometers. The maximal service ceiling is 7,620 meters.
